WHAT IS EGR?
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is a system designed to reduce exhaust emissions. This involves recirculating a controllable amount of the engine's exhaust gas back into the intake air.
A valve is usually used to control the flow of gas, and the valve may be closed completely if required.
What causes EGR issues?
the actual operation of the EGR can cause them to foul with soot from the exhaust. The main issues we see result from the sticky soot/tar like deposits sticking the mechanical parts of the valve together, or damaging the electrical components of electronic EGR valves. This is worsened in cars which are driven shorter, stop/start journeys.
EGR Removal
Due to the problems of the EGR system, and the minimal effect it has on vehicle emissions we believe removal/blanking is the best method for addressing any issues. It is possible to attempt to Clean and also Replace an EGR Valve but since no level of diagnostics beforehand can confirm if either of these will work on a long term basis we prefer to use this guaranteed method where there is 0% of this fault returning.
